The most distinguished chief guest of today’s function Shri.Arun Prakash Trivedi, General Manager, NTPC, Kayamkulam and the Chairman, VMC, KV NTPC Kayamkulam, the most revered Shri.s.Ghosh, Principal, KV NTPC Kayamkulam and Venue and Camp director of the Tritiya Sopan Testing Camp, 2001 of District IV, Chennai Division, KVS, beloved officials, dear scoutmasters and the most loved scouts, a pleasant morning to one and all.
‘Coming together is a beginning
Keeping together is progress
Working together is success’ – as quoted by Henry Ford once.
We all have come together to begin the Tritiya Sopan testing camp , District IV of Chennai Division, KVS State Bharat Scouts and Guides. Let’s see how we plan to progress and what would be our success.
Sir, this is a three days residential camp for the scouts of 12 Kendriya Vidyalayas of District IV , Chennai Division. The scouts numb erring 194 in toto are drawn from these 12 KVs duly escorted by ……scoutmasters.
ADOOR SHIFT 1-16, ADOOR SHIFT 2-20, AFS AKKULAM-20, NAGERCOIL-10, NTPC KAYAMKULAM-10, PALLIPURAM-20, PANGODE-20, PATTOM SHIFT 1-15, PATTOM SHIFT 2-19, R B KOTTAYAM-20, SAP-15, VIJAYANARAYANAM-09
Today, the first day, we are in the inaugural ceremony.
Sir, the first aim of this camp is to test the basic knowledge and skills obtained by our scouts in different levels of scouting as prescribed by APRO – Part 2 ( Aims, Policy, Rules and Regulations of Bharat Scouts and Guides, New Delhi)
The Second aim is to get these scouts prepared for the next level of their advancement i.e. Rajyapuraskar Award Testing Camp, 2012.
During the course of three days, sir, our daily routine starts at 5:30 am with a rouse followed by BP’s seix exercises. These are the simple but effective exercises planned by the founder of the scout movement Lord Baden Powell. Then, the scouts will tested on different levels of their progress.
Pravesh, Pratham Sopan, Dwitiya Sopan and Tritiya Sopan are the four steps they have crossed to come forward to this camp. Here, tests of different methodologies will be conducted to test their efficiency and skills of different stages.
Theoretical aspects like history of scouting, law, promise, motto, left hand shake, general rules of health, compass, mapping, estimation, first aid and the like will be covered in the written tests.
There are also some oral tests like prayer song, flag song, national anthem, law and promise in the camp schedule.
The scouts will also be tested on various practical aspects like knots, hitches, lashing, first aid, estimation, signals etc.
Apart from this, the scouts also will have to undertake some pioneering projects like making an improvised shelter and erecting a flag pole as a competition.
The notebooks of the scouts i.e. general log books, activity books, proficiency badge notebooks along with the relevant certificates too will be checked in the camp days.
The smartness and turnout of the scouts will also be tested in the form of orderly movements and kit inspection procedure.
To help our scouts to bring out their latent talents, this camp provides a platform called Campfire programmes to be held every evening after the tiring whole day work.
We have an all faith prayer on the third day wherein we respect and worship the greatness of all religions sitting in a single platform.
Thus, we progress the through different testing methodologies, different exam patterns and varied observational techniques.
What is our Success?
B P Told once : The Character of a nation depends on the character of her citizens.
So, our success will be in moulding these scouts to become worthy citizens of our nation. The citizens who are useful, helpful, able to survive any situation, confident to take initiatives, bold enough to face the problems and good enough to serve others.
I hope and wish that with the wonderful support of Team KV Kayamkulam, the active co-operation of the escort teachers and the committed involvement of our young scouts, we will be able to achieve the target set before us.
Jai Hind! Jai Scouts!
